Ceske Budejovice

Ceske Budevice has the largest population in the region (100 thousand inhabitants), and is the traditional administrative cultural and economic centre of Southern Czech.
The royal city was founded at the confluence of the rivers Vltva and Malse in 1265 by Premysl II Otakar, who during his life was called “iron and golden”. Subsequently, all throughout its history, Czech Budejovice was loyal to Czech rulers and became a strong support for their power.
The historic centre with its regular network of streets around a large rectangular square (100x100m) is reminiscent of the original foundation of the medieval city. A range of historical places of interest paint a story about the life of the ancestors of Czech people, the most famous of which is Saint Nicolas church.
Another famous attraction is a horse railway, which was used from 1832 by the first train in Europe which went from Budejovice to Linz. But of course, the world famous brewery Budweiser and stationery manufacturer KOH-i-Noor brought fame to the city too.
