Usti nad Labem

Usti nad labem is a city in the northern part of Czech. It is located at the confluence of the Bilina and Labe rivers, and is the administrative centre of the Ustecky region. The town  is an important railway and river junction. The Prague-Dresden-Berlin highway goes through Usti-nad-Labem.

Usti nad labem offers a lot of sightseeing attractions such as the Norhern Czech Opera and Ballet Theatre, which celebrated its 100th anniversary recently, and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which fell prey to American aviation attack in 1945. As a result of this attack the castle leaned sidewards for 2 metres and could not be restored to its original state. This Orthodox church is also famous for its bells.

The Usti nad Labem Museum is one of the oldest museums in the north-western Czech Republic. At the People’s Square visitors can see a modern sundial which consists of a fountain and a tilted clock dial. At night, the fountain is illuminated.

Here you can also find the Dominican Church of Saint Vojtech, which houses the second largest organ in the Czech Republic, and the Apostle Paul Church.
