Nove Mesto nad Metuji

Not many Czech towns are located in such a beautiful locality as Nove Mesto nad Metuji. The Metuje river skirts the rocky cliff almost perfectly, on which the historical part of the city and the castle are situated.

The castle belongs to the Renainssance epoch and was transformed into a Gothic citadel by the Pernsteins. It is situated on the main town square. The building with four wings and a small internal yard was finished by Stubenberk(1588-68). At the same time, the observation tower Mselnice was built, which affords a fine view of the whole town.
