Cesky Krumlov

The city of Cesky Krumlov is one of the most beautiful and attractive historical cities in the Czech Republic. The first mention of the city dates back to the middle of the 13th century. At this time there it was the headquarters of the Vitkovice dynasty, who were Krumlov feudal lords.
In 1302 Krumlov was inherited by the Rozmberks who were the members of the most powerful noble family in the Czech Republic. They chose Krumlov as their residence and during the next 3 centuries they erected buildings which glorified the ambitious rulers. The original fortress was later rebuilt into a Renaissance castle along with its Latran village and urban settlements, which emerged on the opposite slope between characteristic bends of the Vltava river. The town gradually grew, untouched by military events and fires.
The modern castle complex is the largest in the republic after the Prague castle. Among other things, you can find here a unique Baroque theatre with original costumes of that era, a painted “Masks Hall” , golden carriages and a bear yard. City stone houses have been preserved until today in Gothic and Renaissance styles, which amaze visitors from all over the world.
Cesky Krumlov is a city of great culture which holds a lot of festivals and exhibitions, and during the tourist season you can see here superb theatre performances in the local Amphitheatre with a revolving stage surrounded by nature.
